Mr. Miki Watanabe, Founder & President, Watami Co., Ltd.
A man who at 25 years old believed in himself enough to found his own company… who took a job after graduating from college at Sagawa Kyubin to save enough money in one year to start that company… who started from a single restaurant and has built a successful chain of over 630 restaurants worldwide.
HBS Club of Japan is pleased to announce our 2007 Entrepreneur of the Year: Mr. Miki Watanabe.
Born in 1959, Mr. Miki Watanabe established his own company within two years of graduating from Meiji University. The company, now known as Watami Co., Ltd. has sales of over 72 billion yen for the year ending March 31, 2006. Mr. Watanabe has helped redefine the restaurant business with his approach to the eat-out sector. Most recently he has expanded beyond the foodservice business to new areas, including agriculture, nursing care and education. In addition to his responsibilities as CEO of Watami Co., Ltd., he serves as Board Chairperson of School Aid Japan, Chairperson of Ikubunkan Yume Gakuen, Chairman of Eishinkai Medical Society, and Board Governor of Nippon Keidanren.
