The HBS Club of Japan is proud to
announce the selection of this yearfs Business Statesman and Stateswoman
of the Year honorees, to be awarded at a special dinner event on
November 26, 2008 at Josui Kaikan.
Mr. Nishida has served
as President of Toshiba since 2005 and is credited with taking bold
decisive action to focus resources on potential growth opportunities for
Toshiba and to sever less promising sectors. In 2006 he oversaw the
purchase of Westinghousefs nuclear power unit and in 2008 announced
phase-out of Toshiba from the DVD business.
Toshiba has over 33,200 employees and
annual sales in fiscal year 2007 of 3.6 trillion yen.
Mr. Nishida personal motto is gSet
yourself tough Challenges and achieve them.h
He also serves as Vice Chairman of the
Board of Councilors of Keidanren.
Ms. Corrales has been
the President of Starbucks Coffee Japan since January 2006 and has
helped drive the growth and profitability of the company since she
assumed the position of CEO.
Under her leadership the number of
Starbucks stores has grown from 551 in 2005 to 776, and the before tax
profit has risen from 3.7% to 7.2%.
Prior to this Ms. Corrales had served as
President of Levi Strauss Japan from 2001 to 2005 and is credited with
revising the declining sales of Levi Strauss and returning it to
profitability and growth.

will be a cocktail reception from 6:30 – 7:00 p.m., followed by a
sit-down dinner, speeches by the honoree, and a Q&A session.
